Georgia
Regents University invites faculty applications for the
position of Professor and Chief, Division of Prevention
Science & Outcomes Research in the new Institute of
Public and Preventive Health. The successful
candidate is expected to establish an active,
independent program of extramurally funded research to
complement the research strengths and goals of the
University's Institute of Public and Preventive Health
within a research-intensive academic health center.
This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment.
Academic rank, salary, and departmental appointment will
be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Research areas of interest include, but are not limited
to, community-based participatory research; social
determinants of physical and mental health; behaviors
that influence health and acute or chronic illness;
patient-and-family-centered care; health promotion
through physical activity, nutrition, non-smoking,
alcohol and obesity prevention in adults and/or
children; primary and secondary prevention.
Teaching areas include: social and behavioral sciences,
epidemiology and/or biostatistics.
The University
Georgia Regents University is a major academic health
center and health sciences research university committed

research is encouraged.
The Institute of Public and Preventive Health
The mission of the IPPH is to improve health, reduce
health disparities, and prevent injury and illness in
Georgia through research, service, leadership, and
training. These will include the areas of health
management and administration, epidemiology, behavioral
health and health education, environmental and
occupational health and biostatistics, and their
interaction with the basic sciences to enhance
translational as well as community based participatory
research. The knowledge gained will lead to new
approaches and informed decisions in the planning of
public and preventive health strategies across our local
community, Georgia and the nation. The Institute
will develop multiple community health networks and
conduct rigorous interdisciplinary and community-based
research. Furthermore, the Institute will enhance
the educational experience of GRU students by embedding
public and preventive health concepts in their curricula
and providing the opportunity of acquiring dual degrees
(e.g. MD/MPH & DMD/MPH).
The Division of Prevention Science & Outcomes
Research
The Division of Prevention Science & Outcomes Research (PSOR)
is one of five units within IPPH. Similar to its
counterparts (e.g., Social & Behavioral Epidemiology;
Outreach & Collaborative Studies; Education & Program
Development and Health Sciences Research), PSOR includes
scientists from across the Enterprise engaged in
research, teaching and service. The primary goal
of this Division is to facilitate translation of health
disparities research into practice by conducting
clinical (e.g., medical, dental) and applied studies.
The Community
Nestled along the banks of the Savannah River, Augusta
is the second largest city in Georgia. It is
renowned internationally for its annual Masters Golf
Tournament. Known as the "Garden City", Augusta
features picturesque and friendly neighborhoods, low
cost of living, and plenty of cultural and recreational
opportunities. It is a growing and thriving city
which was recently ranked 22nd of the 267 U.S.
metropolitan areas that Kiplinger's Personal Finance
considered for its list of Best Cities for the Next
Decade. August has many artistic organizations
including the Augusta Opera Association ,the Augusta
Ballet, the Fort Gordon Dinner Theater, the Augusta
Players, The Augusta Symphony, the Morris Museum of Art
and the Augusta Museum of History to name a few.
Major metropolitan areas such as Atlanta and Columbia,
SC are within a short driving distance, as are many
scenic destinations, including the Blue Ridge Mountains
and the Atlanta coast, and historic locations, including
Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Division Chief will include (but
are not limited to):
Conduct dissemination, implementation and
multidisciplinary integrated translational research
Lead clinical and translational research teams
investigating disease biomarkers for diagnostics and
prognosis (e.g., gene-environment interactions,
epigenetic mechanisms)
Serve as a resource for clinical studies methodology and
regulatory support services
Minimum Requirements
Required qualifications include:
Earned doctoral degree, preferably with postdoctoral
research experiences, and eligibility for appointment at
the level of Full Professor
Demonstrated excellence in research as evidenced by
publications in peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed journals.
A history of (and preferably current) extramural
funding, including federal grants.
Evidence of a collaborative approach to research.
The final candidate will be required to provide proof of
completed academic degree in the form of an original
transcript.
