The Center for Global Public Health (CGPH)
at UC Berkeley is a multi-disciplinary alliance that supports the
global health mission of the School of Public Health and other
departments and schools on the UC Berkeley Campus. The Center
coordinates and promotes applied research, training, capacity
building, and development efforts across the full range of
disciplines relevant to global health (e.g. infectious diseases
and vaccinology; epidemiology and biostatistics; maternal and
child health; nutrition; environmental and occupational health;
social and behavioral sciences; health policy, economics, and
management; and city and regional planning). It maintains an
office in the Li Ka Shing Center for Biomedical and Health
Sciences, is administratively located in the School of Public
Health, and is led by Faculty Director Professor Eva Harris and
Deputy Director Professor Arthur Reingold.
CGPH is recruiting an Executive
Director (payroll title Academic Coordinator II) to develop and
implement the CGPH’s programs and provide a vision for growth.
Current activities include annual symposia and monthly seminar
series; international student fellowship program; global health
trainings and conferences; visiting scholar programs; and topical
working groups/cross-disciplinary research initiatives. The CGPH
serves as a hub for global health sciences research at UC Berkeley
and as part of a coordinating body for global health in the San
Francisco Bay Area.
Qualifications:
-
MD or PhD in
biological sciences, epidemiology, or another relevant
discipline.

Experience
working on global health research/training and/or conducting
biomedical and health sciences research in a developing country
setting.

Familiarity with the
major challenges in global health and qualified to support
scientific grant writing in this area.

Experience
networking and collaborating with a broad range of scientists in
developing countries.

Familiar with,
and engaged with, the major foundations, donors, advocacy
groups, and technical organizations involved in global health.

Experience managing a
scientific/educational program in an academic or public health
setting or as a program officer at a foundation or government
agency funding global health research.
Key Activities:
·
Monitor and identify
funding opportunities and develop, write, and coordinate
submission of grant proposals to support the CGPH’s activities.
·
Manage program staff and
oversee the planning and implementation of international student
Fellowship programs, annual campus events, seminar series, and
international meetings.
·
Oversee the CGPH's
strategic planning and goal-setting efforts with Center Directors,
with input from faculty members, administration, students, and
outside stakeholders, and staff an external advisory board.
·
Research, coordinate,
participate in donor events and potentially donor trips; identify
and follow up with new donor prospects, develop materials and
marketing plans; coordinate with campus development staff.
·
Develop new and continue
existing cross-campus, Bay Area, and international programs.
·
Cultivate new alliances
that support global health research and training at UC Berkeley.
·
Generate CGPH publicity
through development of print materials, website, social media and
outreach to news media for coverage. Serve as a liaison between
the CGPH and the outside community.

Maintain CGPH email list
and coordinate communication with students, staff, faculty, and
the community. Manage budget and track expenses.
Start Date:
December 1, 2012 (One year appointment
w/benefits with possibility of continued reappointments.)
Salary:
Depending on qualifications: $59,976 - $116,844
(full-time rate)
