Job Description
Job ID:
The Tufts Clinical and
Translational Science Institute (Tufts CTSI) is seeking an
outstanding full time epidemiologist for a position in the
Research Design Center (RDC). The RDC is a team of
epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and research methodologists
that provide assistance and mentoring to clinical researchers in
the development of innovative grant proposals and research
protocols.
Tufts CTSI was established in 2008
with a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical and
Translational Science Award (CTSA) as part of the now
60-institution National CTSA Collaboration. The mission of the
Tufts CTSI is to promote collaborative, cross-disciplinary,
full-spectrum translational research that will have a substantial
impact on how research is done at Tufts and beyond. The CTSI
reflects Tufts' unique emphasis on community in biomedical
research by including multiple hospitals and health plans,
industry leaders, community organizations, and other participants
who share our vision, in Massachusetts and nationally. Tufts CTSI
provides expertise, support, education, and career development
aimed at transforming biomedical research across all of our
participating organizations. This includes 43 member
organizations, including all schools and affiliated hospitals of
Tufts University, other academic partners, a dozen community
organizations, industry partners, and others. Among its key
resources is the RDC, which provides statistical, study design,
editing, and other services to help investigators frame new
research projects and submit grant applications. We are seeking an
epidemiologist to work closely with other statisticians,
epidemiologists, and other staff in providing this key resource to
the Tufts CTSI-wide community. Tufts CTSI is also highly
supportive of faculty initiation of research grants or
collaboration and participation on grants.
Candidates are expected to be
experienced in a wide range of clinical research methodologies and
to complement the ongoing and developing programs within the
Research Design Center. This person will have opportunities to
collaborate with Tufts investigators in the development of
research protocols and grants; to participate in a wide range of
multidisciplinary research projects; and to supervise students,
residents, and fellows, as appropriate. This position also
involves teaching seminars in study design and data analysis as
part of the educational programs offered by the Tufts CTSI to the
greater Tufts research community. This person will coordinate
project development, oversee the activities of teams, assist in
staff development and training, and serve as a liaison with the
Tufts CTSI.
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience with a wide range of
epidemiologic and clinical research design and analytic
methodologies is necessary. Applicants should have excellent oral
and written communication skills, experience in grant preparation,
and teaching and mentoring ability. A solid understanding of
biostatistics is required, as is an ability to recognize
opportunities to apply epidemiologic methods to clinical research
questions. Fluency in regulations for the protection of human
subjects, and expertise in the development of surveys and
databases is highly desirable.
EDUCATION:
Candidates should have a PhD degree
in epidemiology or closely related field, with experience working
in a consulting capacity.
