Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Epidemiology. PhD in epidemiology or related discipline, some teaching experience, and evidence of an active research agenda required. A candidate whose teaching and research interests complement the work of other faculty in the Department of Social Medicine is desired but not required. Current faculty teaching and research interests in the department include social and medical aspects of diabetes; psychological aspects of chronic illnesses (diabetes, obesity, and HIV/AIDS); anthropology of obesity; social inequalities and health disparities; health policy; aging and stress; the medical and psychological effects of trauma across the lifespan; narrative-based medicine; evidence based medicine; culture and health; anthropology of infectious diseases; biomedical ethics; history of women’s and children’s health and medicine; history of public health; physician empathy as perceived by patients; and climate change and urban health.

The successful candidate will hold a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Social Medicine, a multi-disciplinary department comprised of social scientists who study health policy and politics, the social determinants of health, and factors affecting clinical decision-making. In fall 2014, the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine will open an extension campus in Columbus, easing access to urban populations outside of Appalachia Ohio for research purposes. Faculty can also join research initiatives at the College’s CORE hospitals, located throughout the state of Ohio.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitate medical student discussion groups
Offer lectures to medical students in the candidate’s fields of interest
Develop and conduct a coherent research program
Write and publish articles in peer-reviewed publications
Write and submit grants to secure external funding in the course of developing and conducting a research agenda
Provide methodological and quantitative assistance to colleagues
Serve on Departmental, College, and University committees
