The
University of New Mexico (UNM) College of Pharmacy is seeking
exceptional applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or
Associate Professor Faculty position in the Department of
Pharmacy Practice and Administrative Sciences and the
Substance Use Research and Education (SURE) Center. This
position announcement is seeking exceptional applicants for a
full-time (12-month appointment), tenure-track, Assistant or
Associate Professor Faculty position in Social, Behavioral or
Data Sciences with Expertise in Substance Use or Mental Health
Disorders.
Duties
of the Position
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
providing instruction in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and
graduate programs (MS, PhD, and dual degree); developing an
active, extramurally funded research program that aligns with
the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administrative
Sciences, the College of Pharmacy and the UNM Health Science
Center (HSC); and providing service to the College, University
and the profession as deemed appropriate with rank and
expertise. Additional responsibilities include contributing to
the vision, mission, and strategic plan of the College;
mentoring, supervising and evaluating the activities and
performance of professional and graduate students and support
staff as appropriate. The individual will be expected to
collaborate with faculty and staff and share the University
and College’s values.
Minimum
Qualifications:
-
PhD,
ScD, DrPH degree in social and behavioral sciences, data
science, public health, epidemiology, or related
disciplines, or earned PharmD with at least 2 years of
post-doctorate training in above mentioned disciplines.

Evidence
of successful scholarship track record in the field of
social and behavioral sciences, data science, health
promotion, social determinants of health or health
communications.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
A
demonstrated record of teaching experience with the ability
to implement various teaching and active learning techniques
with a diverse group of PharmD and graduate students
-
Expertise, training and research experience in substance use
epidemiology, clinical studies involving individuals with
substance use disorder, prevention and treatment of mental
health disorders, and/or mental health promotion
-
A record
of peer-reviewed publications, grants, or other scholarly
products
-
Demonstrated success working in a multidisciplinary
environment
-
A
pharmacy degree (BS or PharmD)
-
Post-doctoral training
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

A
demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and

Profile of the UNM College of Pharmacy
Located in the historically rich and culturally diverse
Southwest, the College of Pharmacy is part of the Health
Sciences campus and works collaboratively with the School of
Medicine, College of Population Health, College of Nursing,
UNM Hospitals, and UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center in
the state’s largest health complex. The College holds the
distinction of having the most ethnically diverse student body
in the nation. Unique programs within the College include the
New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center, UNM/NMSU
Cooperative Pharmacy program, and the oldest training program

opportunities in the field of licit (i.e. alcohol and
nicotine), illicit, and nonmedical prescription drug use,
misuse, and substance use disorders (SUD). The SURE Center is
leading several NIAAA-, NIDA-, and NICHD-funded studies and is
an active partner with the NIDA Southwest Clinical Trial Node
on ongoing multi-center clinical trials.
The UNM
College of Pharmacy is dedicated to addressing the needs of
the under served and vulnerable communities of New Mexico. The
rural populations of New Mexico are disadvantaged by limited
access to health care, in addition to high prevalence of
substance use disorders, mental health disparities, and unique
occupational and environmental health challenges. Specific
opportunities exist to undertake impactful research on health
disparities among the many Hispanic/Latinx and Native American
communities. The College of Pharmacy has extensive and
important partnerships with vulnerable communities through the
College’s HEALthy Brain and Child Development(HBCD) Program

with specific interests in addressing issues related to health
disparities and working with vulnerable populations are

research, and education. The College has 53 faculty and 474

New Mexico Pharmacists Association, New Mexico Society of
Health-System Pharmacists, and the New Mexico Board of
Pharmacy have created disease state management programs and
innovative practice opportunities including pharmacist
clinicians with prescriptive authority. The College ranks 8th
in NIH grants,12th in total Federal Grants, and 15th overall
in research funding among the colleges of pharmacies in the
United States. College faculty collaborate extensively across

[i.e., Departments of Family and Community Medicine, Internal
Medicine, Neuroscience, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics,
Psychiatry], College of Population Health, Department of
