Environmental Health Perspectives
Journal Accepting Applications for Science Editor Position

Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), a monthly journal of environmental health research and news published with support from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), will be accepting applications for a new Science Editor with experience in environmental epidemiology or related fields. This candidate will evaluate manuscripts focused on human observational studies, actively participate in developing and implementing journal policies. As a key ambassador to the environmental epidemiology community, this individual will encourage both established and early-career researchers to submit high-quality scholarly contributions that are within EHP’s scope.

About the Role:
The Science Editor will serve as a science advisor to the
Editor-in-Chief (EIC), and will work closely with a team of Science Editors, Deputy Editors, and Associate Editors, who are recognized experts in the core environmental health disciplines, including human physiology and disease, exposure science, epidemiology, toxicology, and environmental health.

Operating at a high level of responsibility and independence, EHP Science Editors interface with journal contributors and stakeholders, including scientists, physicians, policy makers, representatives from all levels of government, nongovernmental organization members, environmental health advocates, industry representatives, and the general public.

Science Editors collaborate with various editorial team members to develop, communicate, and uphold rigorous and fair peer review standards. They work with the entire EHP team on activities related to scientific content, peer review management, outreach and communications, publication policies and journal practices.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal Science Editor candidate will possess a PhD in epidemiology or a related field (biostatistics, human exposure science, clinical toxicology) and will have demonstrated experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:

·         Perform applied human observational research using proven scientific methods.

·         Conduct analysis of human observational data using appropriate statistical approaches or models.

·         Act as lead author of human observational research manuscripts published in peer-reviewed scholarly journals (i.e., primarily responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and reporting data, and for writing and submitting the manuscript for peer review).

·         Participate as a peer reviewer of human observational research manuscripts submitted to scholarly journals.

·         Develop and present scientific communications materials to scientific and nonspecialist audiences.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates will have the opportunity to apply for this position on http://www.USAJobs.gov, the official website for federal government jobs, Monday, March 20 through Friday, March 24. This position will be offered as a Direct Hire (GS-13). Science Editor duties will be executed remotely (no onsite work required) from any worksite within the United States. All specialized experience should be made clear in resumes or CVs as described in the official USA Jobs posting.

During the open application period, interested applicants may contact JoAnn Sutthill at sutthillj@od.nih.gov or 984-287-3061 for more information about the Science Editor role and application process. Also, visit the EHP site for additional details.
