The National Institute on Aging (NIA), Intramural Research
Program (IRP), a major research component of the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Department of Health and
Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting for an Epidemiologist
within the Neuroepidemiology Section (NES), Laboratory of
Epidemiology and Population Sciences (LEPS). The NES conducts
research in longitudinally followed cohorts to investigate
trajectories of the aging brain including maintaining a
healthy brain;
changing brain structure and function on imaging modalities;
declining cognitive function and conversion to dementia; and
developing combinations of different neuropathologies. NES
research aims to understand how these markers of brain aging
relate to modifiable and genetic risk factors for, and
biomarkers of,
the life-course trajectories of behavioral and physiologic
measures. The candidate would plan and support the development
and implementation of new and on-going research initiatives.
Responsibilities include: developing new initiatives,
supporting NES cohort and clinical research studies,
interacting with Fellows conducting research with NES, and
contributing to manuscripts for publication. The candidate
might also be asked to investigate new technologies and
analytical strategies to advance NES research. The position
involves interacting with national and international
collaborators and consortia and
representing NES at professional meetings and conferences.
Independent research consistent with NES goals will be
encouraged. Background in biologic sciences and research
methodologies will be important for the candidate to
successfully carry out responsibilities.
A degree is required with a major study in an academic field
related to the health sciences or allied sciences such as
epidemiology. A full Civil Service package of benefits
(including retirement, health, life and long term care
