Job Description

The Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research currently has a team of nationally and internationally recognized cancer epidemiologists and statisticians together with a core group of experienced research staff, engaged in population-based cancer research including etiology, molecular and genetic epidemiology, and biostatistics. A major focus of the research activities is on modifiable lifestyle, occupational and environmental risk factors involved in cancer etiology and survival. All members of the Department have academic appointments at the University of Calgary and collaborate with other researchers at the Charbonneau Cancer Institute (https://charbonneau.ucalgary.ca/) and the O’Brien Institute of Public Health (https://obrieniph.ucalgary.ca/) in the Cumming School of Medicine. Appointments will be granted in appropriate Institutes and Departments of the University of Calgary at an academic level commensurate with experience. The appointees will be expected to obtain external research funding from provincial and national agencies to support their research program.

The Province of Alberta has made a major investment in cancer through the $500 million Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund (http://www.albertapreventscancer.ca), complementing the long term endowment funding provided by the Alberta Cancer Foundation for large scale epidemiologic research projects that include the Alberta Tomorrow Project (https://albertatomorrow.ca/). In addition, the provincial government in its strategic plan for cancer control in Alberta to 2030 includes a strong commitment to cancer prevention research and programs. The construction is underway for an innovative, state-of-the art comprehensive cancer control campus in Calgary that will be the focal point for all areas of cancer control, including research (http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/page15399.aspx).
