The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Division of Epidemiology in the Department of Preventive Medicine seeks a full-time, tenure-track professor with strong training in epidemiology and a research focus on metabolism and aging. The right candidate will also be considered for a position as an Institute Director. Successful candidates will hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology or closely related field, a doctoral degree plus postdoctoral training in epidemiology, or a clinical degree (MD, DO) and graduate/postdoctoral training in epidemiology. Expertise in large epidemiological cohort studies is highly valued and collaborative leadership skills are critical. The candidate should have a proven record of research which has led to extramural research funding and publications. Candidates must currently be PI on multiple federal grants to be considered for this position. While this position will receive direct state support, the successful candidate is expected to maintain substantial salary support through funded research programs. We also currently offer a MS in Epidemiology and the successful applicant should have experience in mentorship and teaching and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Our Division faculty research ranges across cancer, cardiovascular, pediatric, nutritional, and genetic epidemiology, and the candidate will work closely with faculty in the Division, as well as other members of the Department of Preventive Medicine and faculty and staff across UTHSC and its affiliate organizations. The Division is home to the CANDLE Study (Conditions Affecting Neurocognitive Development and Learning in Early Childhood), a longitudinal birth cohort study of 1500 mother-child dyads based in Shelby County, TN ( CANDLE was chosen to participate in the NIH?s recently funded Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program. Ongoing research through West Cancer Center, multiple cardiovascular and diabetes clinical trials, and geriatric population-based studies also provide a rich environment for aging and metabolism studies. To facilitate research on our local population, the UTHSC Center for Biomedical Informatics maintains a research Enterprise Data Warehouse (rEDW) in collaboration with our partner health systems, Methodist and Le Bonheur Healthcare. The rEDW serves as a comprehensive and integrated repository of clinical and administrative data to facilitate the investigation and discovery in areas of quality of care, clinical outcomes, and operations improvement. Investigators are additionally supported through cores in genomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, and community outreach.
