Position Summary:

Public Health Ontario ( is recruiting a Scientist (Epidemiology) to lead and collaborate on the design, implementation and evaluation of studies in the Communicable Disease, Emergency Preparedness and Response (CDEPR) Department. This is a permanent and full-time position in which the Scientist will establish a scholarly program and be expected to hold an academic appointment at the level of Assistant Professor (or higher) at an affiliated Ontario university. The Scientist will also provide scientific and technical advice to contribute to evidence-informed public health practice and the generation of knowledge from practice. In this role the Scientist will establish a research program and work collaboratively to guide and support analysts, epidemiologists and other staff within CDEPR in the optimal use of methods for study design and statistical analysis of epidemiological data.

Education and Experience:

The candidate will have completed a doctoral degree in epidemiology or related field and have knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology, plus 2-3 years of post-doctoral experience in conducting research studies in infectious disease epidemiology, public health or health system emergency preparedness. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Skills and Qualifications:

The candidate will have experience in design of intervention research studies and analytic research methods, including biostatistics and modeling. She/he will additionally have experience working collaboratively with public health agencies and community organizations; translating the results of research for policy application; providing scientific feedback and mentoring of professional staff or students; and full-filling other administrative requirements, such as ethics review applications and privacy impact assessments. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong analytic and methodological skills will be demonstrated by a proven track record in peer-reviewed publications and a history of securing research funding through competitive grants processes.
