Our client’s vision is to be the integrated, customer-focused epidemiologic and global health surveillance proponent for the U.S. Armed Forces.  The Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB) provides timely, relevant, actionable, and comprehensive health surveillance information in order to promote, maintain, and enhance the health of military and military-associated populations. Interim Secret or Active Secret Clearance required.

Epidemiologist III Responsibilities:

Assists in the oversight and implementation of systems designed to track disease and injuries among high-risk populations within the U.S. military
Develops mechanism to improve surveillance of disease outbreak detection and reporting.
Assists in the oversight and improvement of systems to track reportable medical events.
Assists in the development, planning, testing, and validation of detailed public health sero-epidemiologic studies to be conducted in near-real time in the event of a suspected or confirmed outbreak using the DMSS and DoDSR serum specimens.
Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to improve the tracking of diseases, injuries, and reportable events in the U.S. military and DoD.
Tracks diseases, injuries, and reportable medical events using the DMSS, and reports findings to AFHSB, military Preventive Medicine community, and DoD.
Independently formulates hypothesis from epidemiologic problem, study concept and methodological design, analysis and presentation of results.
Assists fellow staff as required regarding epidemiological study design, biostatistical methods, and SAS programming tasks.


Sr. Managing Epidemiologist Responsibilities:

Lead a team of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, senior and junior research analysts in supporting the Director and Assistant Directors of Epidemiology and Analysis in accomplishing the division’s mission and objectives.
Use expertise in SAS® and SQL® to acquire and analyze personnel and health data for military-related epidemiological studies (adhoc or recurrent) received by Epidemiologists & Analysts.
Ensure data quality of reports, analyses, and products produced and distributed by Epidemiologists & Analysts are of highest quality and accuracy.
Determination of feasibility of all requests and taskings received by AFHSB in using the health and personnel data stored in DMSS and serum in the DoDSR.
Assistance in formulation of sound epidemiological studies (i.e., hypothesis generation, study concept and design, data retrieval from AFHSB and other DoD databases, analytic techniques, and reporting).
Expert opinion on infectious disease, primary care, preventive medicine, occupational medicine, and other health topics that are pertinent in health surveillance analysis and reporting
Preparation of adhoc briefings, white papers, summaries, reports, and presentations on health surveillance. Deliver presentations.
Collaboration with Government and contract personnel within AFHSB or from other DoD/Federal agencies in planning and designing sound epidemiological studies to submit for publication in peer-reviewed medical or scientific journals after informing E&A.



Must hold an Interim Secret Clearance and be able to obtain a Secret level clearance
