Wayne State University (WSU) is seeking an
epidemiologist to
play a
strong role in expanding our current research and teaching
programs in public health and medicine. This is a tenure-track
faculty position at the assistant/associate/full professor level
in the Department
of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences (DFMPHS), which is
located on the medical campus of WSU in downtown Detroit.
Applicants must have a PhD, ScD, or equivalent
degree in Epidemiology or a closely related field. Successful
candidates will have a history of and/or strong potential to
develop an externally funded research program. Applicants with a
strong background in collaborative research and a track record of
external funding will be preferred. The new faculty member will
be expected to contribute to teaching in graduate programs in
public health and to mentor graduate students.
Health disparities and stress are two areas of
emphasis in ongoing research in the department. Currently, our
faculty have funding in a wide range of areas including perinatal
health, cancer, obesity, occupational health, violence, and the
relationship between primary care and public health. The
Department of Family Medicine & Public Health Sciences (DFMPHS) (www.med.wayne.edu/fam/)
has an active research program and ranks 4th among U.S.
departments of family medicine in NIH funding.
The DFMPHS has a CEPH-accredited MPH Program and
the successful applicant will be central to developing a new
epidemiology track within the MPH Program and eventually a PhD
program in epidemiology. The DFMPHS has strong collaborative
relationships with many other programs at WSU including the
Karmanos Cancer Institute, the Institute of Gerontology, the Mott
Center for Human Growth and Development, the Institute of
Environmental Health Sciences, and the Center for Molecular
Medicine and Genetics, The School of Medicine has a multitude of
residency and fellowship programs and has the largest enrollment
of any single campus medical school in the US.
