Job Description: Performs highly advanced managerial consultative, administrative, and technical work in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, coordinating, and directing Cancer Epidemiology & Surveillance Branch (CESB) training and non-hospital cancer reporting programs and activities. Particular emphasis is on the use of health information technology, public health informatics and exchange, data management, automated data processing, electronic health/medical records, electronic pathology reporting using HL7, and Comparative Effectiveness Research. Performs necessary coordination with CESB staff, DSHS information technology staff, other programs in DSHS, local, state, and federal agencies, central cancer registries, and cancer reporters relating to the cancer registry. Performs highly advanced administrative, consultative, and technical work required in directing and facilitating training and non-hospital electronic cancer data reporting across the State. Evaluates, plans, recommends, and oversees implementation of current training, cancer reporting and information technology techniques, standards, policies, and procedures in directing fully electronic nonhospital cancer incidence reporting activities. Serves as an expert in the application of electronic health records, health information exchange, International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O) coding schemes, Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER), American College of Surgeons (ACoS), North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), and CESB cancer registration guidelines and standards. Supervises CESB training and non-hospital reporting staff. Acts as Branch Manager in the Manager's absence. Works under limited direction of the CESB Branch Manager in Austin, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Initial Selection Criteria: Experience with health information technology and informatics. Experience in cancer registration or other disease surveillance. Experience with adult education/training. Experience managing and supervising others.

Registration or Licensure Requirements: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a master’s degree in public health, public administration, health informatics, or a related field is required. Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) preferred but not required.

Travel: 10%
