Full-Time Epidemiology Faculty Position

Graduate Program in Public Health

Eastern Virginia Medical School/Old Dominion University

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is seeking a faculty member in epidemiology for a full-time position in our accredited MPH Program. The position involves teaching introductory and advanced courses in epidemiology to MPH and other health professions students, coordination of the epidemiology track, consultation in the Program’s Epidemiology/Biostatistics Core, research, and student advising.

Established in 1997 in collaboration with Old Dominion University (ODU), the MPH Program enrolls an average of 60 new students per year, with specialty tracks in health services administration and policy, epidemiology, environmental health and health promotion. An MD/MPH dual degree, and two certificates also are offered. Students complete the MPH degree in two years by taking courses for six consecutive terms. Classes are held during evenings, and possibly some Saturdays.

The Program staffs an institution-wide consultation service named the Epidemiology/Biostatistics Core, which encourages research and provides essential support to faculty, students, and medical residents.  The region offers many opportunities for research collaboration with investigators in both healthcare and community-based settings. Notable campus centers include the Strelitz Diabetes Institute, the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, and the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology.

An earned doctorate in epidemiology and ability to teach effectively in the classroom are essential qualifications. Experience as a public health practitioner, a successful researcher, and/or teaching in a CEPH-accredited school or program are highly desirable.

Salary and faculty rank are commensurate with experience. Applications will be reviewed as received. The anticipated starting date is July 1, 2013.

QUALITY OF LIFE: Located in the city of Norfolk, EVMS and ODU serve the southeastern region of Virginia known as Hampton Roads, as well as northeastern North Carolina. The area is rich in history, culture and education. It also provides easy access to the Outer Banks, mountains, Washington D.C., and the state capital in Richmond. Norfolk/Virginia Beach was Places Rated Almanac’s #1 metropolitan area for recreation. Live and work in an environment abundant in history, culture, and recreation.

To apply, send letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and names, addresses, and telephone numbers of three references to:
