Job Description:
Prince William Health District seeks a
Program Administration Specialist II/Human Services Manager Field
to serve as the District Epidemiologist. The health district is
the local health department for Prince William County, Manassas
City, and Manassas Park with a population of approximately 464,000
and two acute care hospitals. This position is mission critical
for the district's emergency preparedness and response for public
health incidents/threats, including communicable disease
outbreaks, bioterrorism, and other natural and man-made disasters.
The District Epidemiologist is required to have a set of key
public health competencies that enable the district to initiate
and conduct comprehensive assessments of health threats and
promptly implement preventive/ treatment interventions to halt
disease spread. The District Epidemiologist monitors the Virginia
Department of Health's syndromic disease surveillance (ESSENCE)
and disease reporting (VEDSS) systems. The District Epidemiologist
is responsible for outreach and consultation with physicians,
hospitals, long term care facilities and other facilities for
communicable disease and outbreak prevention and intervention. The
District Epidemiologist reports directly to the district's Health
Director, and provides epidemiologic and data analysis support.
This is a rewarding opportunity with liability coverage and an
excellent benefit package. Typical operational hours are Monday
through Friday, 8 am until 4:30 pm, except during public health
outbreaks emergencies. The District Epidemiologist, like other
emergency response positions, is expected to be on-call 24/7 for
public health emergency response.
Qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge of the
community environment and emergency preparedness and response
resources and methods, including bioterrorism, with considerable
knowledge of epidemiology surveillance and investigation
principles. Subject matter expertise in communicable diseases and
the principles of epidemiology, including bioterrorism response
and preparedness in public health emergencies. Ability to apply
research principles, develop/manage databases, and analyze and
interpret statistical information. Knowledge of laws, regulations
and policies on disease reporting and control. Ability to act
independently while managing a multidisciplinary district-wide
program. Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams including an
epidemiological response team. Ability to develop goals and
evaluate program progress. Excellent oral and written
communication skills. Must have experience in training others in
epidemiology and communicable diseases.
