This
unique
faculty
position
provides
an
opportunity
for
a
quantitative
epidemiologist
to
join
a team
of interdisciplinary faculty
dedicated to
improving
global
health.
Founded
by
gifts
of
the
Bill and Melinda
Gates
Foundation
and Paul
G.
Allen,
the
mission
of
the
Paul
G.
Allen
School
for
Global
Animal
Health
(Allen
School)
is
to
improve
human
health
and
opportunity
by
disease control
at
the animal-human
interface
(http://www.globalhealth.wsu.edu).
The
Allen
School has
active,
highly
collaborative
research
programs
with
the
Kenya
Medical
Research
Institute/CDC
in
Kenya
that
generates
large
data sets
involving animal
health,
human
health,
and econometrics.
Emphasis
is
on
the
transmission
of
infectious
diseases
within
and between
proximal
human
and
animal
populations,
on factors
that
influence
this
transmission,
and
on
impact
assessment.
This
work
is expected
to generate
new
ideas
to
limit
disease
transmission
while
maximizing
socio-
economic
and
human
health
benefits.
Additional
opportunities
arise
from
current
programs
in both the U.S.
and
overseas
with
opportunity
to
develop
new
global
health
efforts. The
epidemiologist
is
expected to
work
closely
with
our
partners
and to
demonstrate a
commitment
to
the
School’s
public
health
and
humanitarian mission.
The
successful candidate
will
actively
engage in
the
education
and training
mission
of
the
Allen
School,
which
encompasses
teaching university courses, professional
veterinary medical
education,
graduate
and
post-doctoral
education,
and
short-term
training for collaborative partners.
A
doctoral
degree
(PhD or
DrPH or DVM, or
MD)
is
required
before date of hire with
a minimum of six months
post-doctoral
research
experience
in
epidemiology
and publication
in
top tier
international
journals.
Applicants with
research
experience
and
interests
relevant
to
the
global
health
mission
of
the
Allen
School,
and a
demonstrated
record
of scholarly
activity
using
statistical
and
quantitative
epidemiologic
approaches to
examine
infectious
disease
transmission,
socioeconomic
and health
impacts,
are strongly
encouraged
to
apply.
The
rank
is
open
(Assistant,
Associate
or
full
Professor)
depending on
experience;
appointments
at
the
Associate
and
full
Professor
require
a strong record
of
both
publication and
extramural
funding.
